Point Comfort, TX

A company town, created to support an Alcoa aluminum  plant. During its nearly 75 years the community prospered for many years. Supporting a doctor’s office, a grocery store, restaurants and a school. Although now like many of its residents the town is aging. Environmental concerns and a new petrochemical plant with a revolving workforce as the major employer. Has created a place with little prospects.

But some residents love their little town.

Josh Fay. 40, of Schulenburg, paddles his kayak back to shore after fishing in Lavaca Bay near Point Comfort. Fay said he fishes the bay a couple times a year. Fay said he was sport fishing that day but isn't concerned about health warnings related to eating fish from parts of the bay. And said he believes marine life seems healthier in the past few years and credits conservation efforts.
